MIGRANTS, REFUGEES, AND CITIZENS: THE U.S. ON AN IMMIGRANT PLANET

This course examines how war, labor, and politics have created the conditions for migration to take place. It examines categories such as “(im)migrant,” “refugee,” “citizen,” and “undocumented,” not as self evident, but as socially and historically constructed. Students analyze the historical, social, cultural, and political impacts that migration has had in shaping the United States as well as explore how new and moving populations have helped to (re)define American national identity.
